Stencils for realism and portrait work

Realism lives or dies on placement and proportion. HectoInk pulls the structural lines out of a portrait or photo reference: the features, the big value shapes, the landmarks you map your shading to. Detail and line weight controls let you keep the reference lines you need and drop the noise you do not.

Straight answers

How much detail should a realism stencil have?

Enough to place the features and the main value shapes, and no more. Too many lines turn into a map you cannot read on skin. Start with Linework mode, then lower the detail until the stencil shows structure instead of texture.

Can I use a client photo as the reference?

Yes. Upload the photo, set the exact width in inches for the placement, and preview the lines before printing. A clear, well lit photo with the head or subject level in the frame gives the cleanest structural lines.

Does the stencil include shading?

The stencil is line work: outlines and the internal lines that mark major value changes. It gives you the map. The shading itself stays in your hands, where it belongs.
